The Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation Mission And Statement of Purpose

The Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation (ISFMF) is a non-profit organization. An Advisory Board administers the ISFMF.

Mission

The MISSION of the Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation is: to promote an awareness and understanding of the history of the Illinois State Fair as it relates to its role in the history of Illinois and the United States, while serving to improve the historic Illinois State Fair buildings & grounds as well as support State Fair agricultural, scientific and educational programs.

The purpose of the entity known as the Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation is to enhance, advise, promote, develop and assist in the operation of the museum to share the history and heritage of Illinois’ Agricultural development with museum visitors. Located on the Illinois State Fair grounds, the museum will receive support in all ways including financial, spokespersons, proponents and fiscal help. The goal is to upgrade the museum to desirable standards that include recognition of the Illinois State Agricultural Society’s historical role. All funds received would be disbursed as authorized by the governing board as provided in the by-laws.

The ISFMF achieves its purpose by: Collecting, preserving and interpreting the rich history of the Illinois State Fair, and the community in which it exists; from the first Fair in 1853 to the present day. Serving as an educational nonprofit organization by offering a variety of changing or traveling exhibitions to highlight historical and educational programs of the Illinois State Fair. Serving the general public by providing a meaningful and educational experience through publications, informative exhibitions, tours, lectures and programs, volunteer work opportunities, internships, and a website to the Internet

After 153 years of operation, the Illinois State Fair has a new supporter, the Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation, Inc. The foundation has been formally organized to seek contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations and other foundations to make improvements and initiate new programs for the fair that are not possible under current funding.

Objectives include to solicit and maintain funds and property support the Illinois State Fair and Fairground Buildings and grounds; to cooperate with businesses, industries, government agencies and individuals; to promote and develop activities and programs at the center; and to aid public bodies in the education and interpretation of Illinois products and people.
